Shopping cart - Silent allround PC - comments please

Post by Tobey » Sun Jul 27, 2008 6:51 am

Hi!

After some days research partly here on SPCR I've come up with the following shopping-cart. The PC will be used for browsing the internet, e-mailing, photoediting RAW's using PS CS3 and Lightroom mainly. It will occasionally be used for gaming and also as an entertainment center playing MP3's and watching movies. I want it to be as silent as possble yet powerful so that it performancewise will be ok for 2-3 years at least.

I've thought of buying a 300GB Velociraptor as systemdisk but I suppose that will spoil the idea about a silent PC? Do you think there's a point using PC8500 instead of PC6400 DDR2's? Do you think I could manage with a 520HX PSU or do I need the 620HX PSU?

Antec Case P182
Corsair HX Series PSU 620W 12V Modular PSU
Asus P5Q-E motherboard
Intel Core 2 QUAD Q9450 2.66GHz
Noctua NH-U12P CPU Cooler
Corsair XMS2 2x2048MB DDR2 PC2-6400 800MHz
PowerColor Radeon HD4850 512MB GPU
Arctic Cooling ACCELERO S1 Rev.2 GPU-cooler
2 x Western Digital Caviar XL WD6400AAKS 640GB 7200rpm HD
2 x Scythe Quiet Drive
Arctic Silver 5 Premium Thermal Compound 3.5g
3 x Noctua NF-S12-1200 Fans
Samsung SH-S223F DVD±RW Dual-Layer 22X

Best regards

Hi,
It doesn't look bad at all !!! I'll just suggest that IMO, the quad core is overkill... but why not :)
Also if you're a windoze XP user, I don't think it supports more than 3Go of RAM.
Don't forget to post pickes when you're done building it !!!

I'll try Vista on this build. So far I'm a XP user but I'll give Vista64 a try. I will probably wait för the q9450 pricedrop before ordering. Regarding fans I feel somewhat confused about which fan to use: nexus, slipstreams or noctuas?

I personnaly use noctuas (one 120mm and 2*92mm) for case ventilation and an Arctic cooling PWM fan for CPU heatsink cooling... I'm perfectly happy with those. IMO you won't be disapointed with noctuas, that's for sure.
