Looking for a case with only 5.25" bays

Post by Vaiski » Thu Sep 11, 2008 8:24 am

I need to suspend 5 drives, and 5.25" bays would seem to be the easiest way to do that.

I've found Sharkoon Rebel 9 and Lian Li PC-A17.

Lian Li:

By the looks of them suspending should be pretty easy in both.
My system specs are:
E6850, 8800GT, 1x WD 5000AAKS, 4x WD 10EACS

Any thoughts on those cases? Any other suggestions?

EDIT: Initially I considered Stacker STC-T01 as well, but then I found out that their price is still pretty high in Finland. It'd certainly give me lots of room for upgrading though..

My Antec Sonata Designer 500 came with three internal 3.5" suspension mounts for hard drives and has another four external 5.25" drive bays.

I believe there are also some cheaper versions of the same case under the name Solo or Sonata that don't include the PSU if you wanted to bring your own. I'm pretty impressed with how quiet the built-in 500W PSU on the Sonata Designer is, though.

The Antec 900 or 1200 are also options, although their highly ventilated design reduces the ability for them to reduce ambint noise from the internal components.
