Enermax modu82+ which watt? 425 vs 525 vs 625

Post by ddrj » Wed Jan 14, 2009 11:45 am

Hello SPCR, I'm coming to you again for system advice :)

I'm trying to decide between which version of this amazing PSU I should get. Currently my local store has all 3 PSU's :

Enermax Modu82+ EMD425AWT 425: $104.99
Enermax Modu82+ EMD525AWT 525: $135.99
Enermax Modu82+ EMD625AWT 625: $149.99

SPCR has the 625 watt one reviewed but my system doesn't use too much resources at all and I kind of wanted to get the lowest watt one.

Here is something a wise man said to me when I asked but I'm not too sure what to make of it:
I've used all 3 models -- and the pro82+ as well. They alll have the same base acoustics. The lower power models' fans will tend to ramp up at somewhat lower power, but this all depends on case/system airflow/setup. I think they're all super quiet.

My specs:

CPU - Intel Core2Duo E8400
Video Card - ATI Radeon 4870 1GB (replaced stock with accelero)
RAM - 4GB (2 x 2GB) DDR2 - 800
Mobo - Asus P5Q SE2
CD/DVD - Samsung CD / DVD Burner SATA
HardDrive - Seagate 3.5" 500GB SATA
Fans - 3 x 120mm fans running at ~800rpm

Thanks in advance

525W should be more than Plenty for your needs. 425W would probably run very fine your system aswell and slightly more effectively.

Thanks! I ended up getting the 425 version for the reasons you listed above and also because it was cheaper heh.

I'm thinking i might buy this model myself, and wondered if you would share your experience with it?

I made a BIG BIG mistake buying the 425W model. I installed it and it is not very loud but definitely very audible. After searching on these forums, I found out many other people had problems with the 425W version. Apparently it's the "lemon" out of the modu82+ series. From reading some more on these forums, the other 2 are fine (525 and 625) but stay away from the 425. It sounds something like this: when you're on an airplane right before takeoff, with the AC etc..

I am willing to sell mine if you want it though :P It's between selling this or sending it back :(

I think I am going to go with the Corsair HX520 maybe now :(

The quest for a good psu goes on...

thanks for the reply. think i will go with 525 instead then, altough it's quite expensive.

edit: or perhaps a corsair vx450 with a fan swap, as this is almost the same price as the enermax 425 and i really don't need that much power
