Fan Failure workaround for my netbook

Post by jeliotcranch » Wed Sep 29, 2010 7:19 pm

Hi, been a visitor for a while, but I need some advice.
I've got an Acer Aspire One netbook, the one with the noisy fan issues. I had one fan die recently, got a replacement, but I've done some heatsink calcs, and since its only dumping 24.5W between the chipset and the CPU, it should be coolable fanless. The processor supports it, but...here is where I need help:
The motherboard senses the fan is disconnected and shuts down. The BIOS doesn't allow the ability to disable the fan failure mode.
I'm trying to sort exactly what the motherboard is sensing: the tach signal, the internal resistance of the fan, something else? If I can duplicate this, the mobu will allow the machine to keep running.
Any help would be great
Thanks
