I'm building a home router/server and I'm in need of some advice about components, specially case. What I'm trying to build is the following:
-MUST be thin (no cube cases), smaller is better, mini-itx preferred but micro-atx can do.
-Server grade components (mobo, cpu, ram), exceptions to psu (can't find anything server-grade that is small and fanless, as picopsu), HD (server ones are too power hungry and noisy, and since I will be using raid 1 consumer ones shouldn't be a problem) and case (quite obvious why).
So far I have already chosen the following components:
CPU - E3-1220L. It is a xeon, 2 cores, 2.2ghz up to impressive 3.4 in turbo, ECC ram and only 20w. If anyone has suggestions they are welcome but keep in mind power consumption and ECC ram.
MOBO - If I go mini-itx S1200KP is pretty much the only option, has just everything I need but of course more features is better (remote management, audio and HDMI if I ever decide to use it as HTPC too, more sata ports, usb3, etc). I don't know what I will use if I go micro atx. Anything bigger is too big (micro atx is just at the limit).
PSU - PicoPSU or equivalent.
HD - Probably 2x 2tb caviar greens, will look more into it.
My main problem is finding a case that supports 2x 3.5" HDs and is both slim and fanless. The only choice I see so far is the HDPlex H5.S, problem is that it is out of stock in the official site and I can't find it for sale anywhere else. It would be perfect if I could fit two 3.5" drives in the H3.S or H3.SODD, someone owns any of these and can say if it is possible to do it?
