Hard drive test errors

Post by xev » Mon Oct 07, 2013 9:11 pm

I finally got around to installing my WD drive to be used an internal backup and media drive.
I ran HD Tune slow test and 2 sectors came out red (damaged). 1 in the 6th row and 1 in 7th.
Should I be worried?
Anything i can do to remedy it?
I checked and apparently warranty ran out a year ago, even though I didn't buy it that long before that.

Run the diagnostics from WD, not a third party tool. If there are only two bad sectors it may be able to remap them and make the drive more usable. That doesn't mean the drive will be reliable long term. You should test the drive with the WD diagnostics regularly if you intend to keep using it. If no more bad sectors show up the drive will probably be fine. If you start finding more bad sectors or other errors the drive is likely toast. Either way, don't use it for anything you haven't backed up.
