Which Passive CPU Cooler For Intel G3220?

Post by Blade » Wed Feb 12, 2014 4:42 am

Hi Guys,

I'm overhauling my HTPC, and need a passive CPU Cooler for an Intel G3220 (53w TDP - Socket 1150)... I'ts been using s passive Scythe Ninja Mini for some time with great results, but it's incompatible with my new socket

I understand that coolers are compatible between the socket 1150, 1155 and 1156, so anything that fits those will do.

In a perfect world, it would eb great to get a passive cooler under 70mm in height, as that means I can use a fullsize optical drive (Silverstone GD06 case).

If this isn't possible at all, the cooler can go up to 120mm, but I'd like to avoid this if possible.

The manual recommends I could use the Silverstone NT01-E in a fanless configuration, but it's £47 = $77.

Are there any other options I can look at?

Many thanks!
Rich

If I'm not wrong, you may try to order these, directly from Scythe Customer Support: http://www.scythe-eu.com/en/products/pc ... clips.html

Thanks for the suggestion Quest... :)

Actually, the old rig will be becoming my server, along with the current Scythe Cooler

So, I'll definitely need a new one... I've been researching, and the NT01-E is still top of the pops, unless there is another one I can look at.

Cheers

The NT01-E should be phased out: now there's the improved NT01-Pro (42 GBP @ Scan).

At any rate, providing you have some case fans very close to the heatsink, you may look for some 2U server heatsinks (SuperMicro, Dynatron and the likes): I guess that any other option would be less cost-effective than the Silverstones.

On the contrary, if you wanna go fanned, there's the Scythe Big Shuriken 2 at 57mm (IIRC).

That makes a load of sense, thanks a lot

I'll make sure it's the up to date model, in that case, barring any other option
