Setting temp for fan to be on/off

More popular than ever, but some are still very noisy.

Setting temp for fan to be on/off

Post by chris1985 » Sat May 20, 2006 10:21 pm

I have a Packard Bell notebook and have recently undervolted the CPU using "Centrino Hardware Control (CHC)" which I downloaded from a website. This was successful and the laptop is now running noticeably cooler.

I want to alter the threshold at which the CPU fan will turn on, or turn off. Although I cannot see anything in my BIOS to do this, I have read various websites which suggest it may be possible to do this using ACPI. I have found quite a few suggestions on how to do it with Linux, and with certain models of laptops (such as Thinkpads), however I cannot find any information about Win XP to work with my laptop. Does anyone know how I can use ACPI to adjust the threshold at which the fan turns on? Or any other method that works with XP?

Thankyou for your help,
Chris
