toshiba a100-sk9 2.0Ghz geforce 7600go - fan control?

Just bought this laptop... fan always on and speedfan doesn't seem to work. Any suggestions?
The fan is noticeable. I think it might bother me over time - when working in quiet environments. I don't see why I wouldn't be able to tone in down for when im doing quiet word processing. Haven't tested under load yet. Other than that this seems to be everything I've wanted in a laptop.
