List of fanless laptops

More popular than ever, but some are still very noisy.

Just got my hands on a HP Pro x2 410 G1. Overall very impressed. A nice upgrade from my laboring Fujitsu p7120. Kudos to HP for making haswell fanless designs.

After so many years fanless design is finally back in business :)

That seems nice because it's actually a tablet with a keyboard dock. That means all the heat-generation happens away from the keyboard? (so that keyboard remains room temp at all times?)

Yeah, the keyboard part only contains the ports and one of the two batteries of the system. So most heat is generated on the tablet part. I don't feel much warmth on the back of the tablet either with typical use, such as watching youtube. Overall it feels cooler than my old fujitsu p7120. The tablet part can be used by itself without problem because the tablet part has its own battery and charging port, except without IO ports (USB and HDMI on keyboard part).

How's the balance when it's in laptop form? Is it tippy?

It appears reasonably stable to me in laptop mode. Admittedly I don't do touch a lot in laptop mode, but the times that I use touch in laptop mode it works fine without tipping over. So I guess having a second battery in keyboard part helps with the balance pretty well. Also the hinge extends a little to the back of the keyboard, which also helps with the balance.

I'm happy. For year was searching fanless laptops and now there are a lot of them!!

I will buy the Lenovo Flex 10 or the Acer E3-111 (acer e-11 in some markets). Both budget, HDD upgradeable to SSD, and upgradeable ram to 8gb.

Put them in the list of fanless laptops!

Flex 10 has soldered RAM with a max of 4GB configuration. Acer's E 11 is hardly user upgradable and there is no confirmation from anyone that 8GB would work (see my review). The only fanless I am aware of that reportedly support 8GB RAM are the upcoming Acer B115(P) and HP Pro x2 612 G1. I am yet to see either of them whether they are user-upgradable or not.

Wow I'm amazed by these 4GB limits!

Correction: Acer now publishes max supported RAM for E 11 (E3-111) to be 8GB.
Although I doubt many would actually be able to do it given the troublesome access to the SODIMM slot.

It should ship with 8GB min. That is just silly.

Did Intel put restrictions on netbooks with BayTrail?

All the ones I've seen have screens with paltry 1368*768 resolution...

If I'd find a fanless 13" model with high resolution screen I'd likely buy it in a heartbeat...

These usually top out at 11.6" screen, but I'm not sure of the latest ones.

Please i ask for your help.

Is the HP Pavilion 11 x2 fanless?

I found the versión with the Celeron N2910, 64gb of storage and 4gb ram with a really good pricing, but i have no information about the laptop and the reviews that i saw didn´t tell so much.

Are the ram and SSD upgradeable? Is the laptop fanless?

I think it's a TN panel, it's not glossy, RAM + HDD (and maybe WLAN) easily upgradable, RAM up to 8 Gb I think, removable battery without unscrewing anything.
The 15 inch screen is wide enough to work on it.
The plastic case does not retain fingerprints. Good keyboard, offers numeric pad.
It's also quite cheap (229 euros in France at this moment with a bargain and free shipping)
The screen quality is average but OK imho.

I've put windows 7 on it cause I had a license (and drivers are available) and windows 8 has no real meaning on this (not to say the stupidity of the license mechanism).
And a 256 Go Samsung 840 EVO SSD.

The harddisk is noisy. The laptop itself has a cheap look.

The processor is good for a sound player, and much more: no lags in windows seven and everything is fast enough.

All in all, I'm very happy with it !
You could always swap out the HDD with an SSD.
I got this laptop from the UK (not available in Sweden) recently, bought a outlet-converter. Downside is keyboard layout is not native.

Anyway, Windows 8.1 was pre-installed and slow out of the box; browsing, generally navigating around. Even after uninstalling bloat and mcaffee.

Switched to an SSD (which is a but cumersome with this model, but not THAT hard, see instructions here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9NEIiY-p7Z4) and clean install of win 8.1 just now. With launchy, evernote, dropbox, everything, keepass, wunderlist, eset nod32, viber and palemoon with 10 tabs open everything flows smoothly.

edit october 2015: I've experienced slow loading of webpages for more than a year, tried all sorts of things to fix it. I can at this point not recommend this laptop. More info of my problem here: http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-H ... -p/5055350

Hi

Do you know that references ?
Do you think they are fanless (because some Portable has N2830-N2830 or N2940 intel celeron) ;
- PACKARD BELL Easynote TG71BM-C5P9 (intel celeron N2940- 4Go -HD : 500Go LAn - 15"6)
- COMPAQ HP 15-S015NF (intel celeron N2830- 4Go -HD : 500Go LAn - 15'6)

Thank you for your answers.

Hi,

Both of them have air vent (HP: on the left, PB: on the rear) which could indicate active cooling.

Soricx

Edit: air vent is not a proof of active cooling, HP 250 has air vent and passive cooling system.
I was not able to get any information on these 2 laptops to confirm a passive cooling.

Would be nice if they could make these fanless designs completely sealed with no vents and thus free of any possibility of dust entering the chassis passively. But I suppose there are still heat issues that need to be dealt with.

I have one: is nearly silent (except the hdd).
All bay trail Lenovo laptops are fanless, even the G50-30 (15.6"): http://www.notebookcheck.net/Lenovo-G50.123275.0.html
