I am looking for a Notbook for my uniersity study
I want to buy Toshiba Portege R300 Notebook
I saw Onhop online store can give me 25%off, the price now $ 1965.8 CAD.
Anyone can tell me this is a reasonable price ? or I can get the same product in a lower price than this one?

For a Core Duo(note not Core 2 Duo), 1GB RAM and Intel graphics that is way much. It's probably because it has the 12.1" screen and is classified as an ultraportable.
Does it have to have that screen size or would you consider a 15.4"? It's not terribly heavy, is better to type and do research with and costs a lot less. You also have more options with hardware in that category.

$1500+ for any laptop is pretty high in my opinion...
if you absolutely need a 12.1" laptop then, you'll have to pay at least $200-300 more than a similarly configured 14.1" - 15.4" laptop...
I would get a 14.1 - 15.4" laptop - its pretty much a good spot that gets the best parts from both desktop replacements and ultraportables....
I have a dell inspiron 1420, which is 14.1" screen...and its overall a great laptop. I only use it for office work/music/videos, so its pretty much alright w/ its integrated graphics. If you don't plan on gaming, its a pretty good laptop at ~$1000 (my config price).

Paid 799 EUR = 1,131 USD = 1,132 CAD for my Fujitsu. (I thought CAD < USD !?)
It's a 15.4" Amilo with a Radeon HD 2300, Core 2 Duo T5250 and 1GB of RAM. It's a good basic laptop, and you could get a much better(relatively, all Core 2 Duos are good performers) CPU if you were willing to have a weaker GPU.

Uhhh sorry I had to.
Anyway yeah, if you're planning on using your laptop during lectures or in a classroom, 12" is king. It's sturdier, lighter and easier to pack in with all your books and papers than a 15". It also leaves you room to have your notes out while having a screen big enough to take notes with and write essays on.
If you don't need to take notes with it during lectures or have to use it for coursework in class, I do feel a lot more comfortable with 15". My friend has a 12" HP and it's a nightmare to do research with, there just aren't enough pixels on the screen to display two documents side by side. It's just as easy to lug around in a backpack, although it is a bit heavy to leave hanging on the backs of chairs. My bags are no bigger now than they were before I got the laptop.
Individual tastes vary, so I'd at least get a hands-on experience on a friend's laptop, maybe see how they carry and use theirs etc.
