Has anybody tried the 80 GB hybrid hard drive from SAMSUNG?
They say that it spins up every 10-20 min for a while, when the flash memery is full. I am realy trying to get some information about the idle noise of this drive because my HD's idle noise drives me crazy. You know this continous SHHHHH.....
What happens when downloading. It fills the flash memory and then spins up to copy data to the platters.

I haven't heard anything about this; in fact, I didn't even know it was available for purchase yet. However, I'd be careful of it in a quiet system. The technology is great for laptops, where power consumption is of immediate importance, but in a desktop the noise will be a problem. Think about it - it'll make just as much noise as your current drive when it's spinning, but it'll call attention to itself by changing. The same noise continually can seem quieter than when it's intermittent, because you can mentally block it out better.

I highly doubt it will spin down.
