Silent / Quiet and powerful notebook?

More popular than ever, but some are still very noisy.

Silent / Quiet and powerful notebook?

Post by sedeco » Wed Aug 24, 2011 2:33 pm

I've read about the Dell mini 10 beeing silent. Can someone suggest a 13" to 17" notebook with a i7(preferable) or i5 beeing pretty silent, around 20 - 25 db. My uses is work and multimedia, and I want things to go blazingly fast, i'm tired of my old t2400 cpu and dd.

I just got a new Dell Latitude E6320. 13" screen, i5-2520M, 8Gb Ram and a 128Gb SSD.

It is the first computer I have ever had that is completely silent. It is also the fastest machine I've ever had. Fan only comes on when doing something like encoding video - it's never come on when browsing the web / watching video.

They're quite expensive from the Dell site but I got mine from an eBay seller for much less. Build quality is superb (and yes it's a Dell)!

Another feature I love is that its very user serviceable - see here:

Highly recommended if you can find one / afford it.

Thinkpad T & X series have been the choice for silent&powerful since T/X61 series.
They always silently hum in the background, and noise type stays soft even undel full load.
Look at notebookcheck.net for reviews with decibel measurements.
And I'm typing this with Dell, so not biased :)
