new athlon ii 250u cpu... 25W tdp..

Post by hans007 » Sun Jan 17, 2010 8:51 pm

I was at officemax today and saw a computer that was built into an 18.5" monitor by HP.

Apparently its a 1.6ghz cpu based on the regor core, and there is also a planned 260u model.

Anyone know if there is a place online to buy just a cpu?

Or, you could just underclock it yourself.

Take a 45 W 240e and drop it from 2.8 to 1.6 GHz.
45 x 1.6 / 2.8 = 25.7 W

As you can see, it can be achieved without changing the Vcore, just change multiplier to x8 in BIOS and done.

Or, pick the cheapest Athlon II you can find and lower the Vcore too. Here's a handy tool for calculating.

I guess it was this computer you saw? HP's part number for the 250U is 585014-001.

But then u can't have cool&quiet, which may negate the underclocking effect.

You can buy the 260u (cpu only) on ebay btw.

You can use software like K10stat to adjust multi without breaking CnQ. If you don't want to rely on software for this, though, probably best to get one of these chips.

I'm sure these parts are OEM only, best bet probably is to keep an eye out on eBay for system pulls.
