hello!
i love this site, it is truly a great resource for the noise conscious, most of the pc enthusiast community seems only to bother about getting 500 fps and overclocking with 20000 rpm fans and stuff.
anyway, i am clear about the big picture:

-A8N SLI Deluxe Socket 939
socket 939, seems to be the way to go, and i like the features of this board, also, it seems to be possible to mount an ZM-47J or whatsitscalled on the NB without problems with the
-Gigabyte GV-NX66T128VP Silent Pipe 128MB 6600GT PciE

- Athlon 64 3200+, will probably clock it to 3500+ speeds.

-Artic Cooling Freezer 64 for starters, eventually change to XP-120 with nexus fans if i feel rich. would it be worth it?

-Nexus 4090 460W Nätagg or Seasonic Super Silencer, but rev3 seems very hard to get in sweden..

-Samsung Spinpoints i already got.

when theres RAM, i'm no expert on that issue, but i am wondering if it is worth getting good memory with low latencies. it must be at least pc3200 with the ability to run Dual Channel, and i dont plan to voltmod, so i can probably not get any more than 2.85 volts for them. anyway, i've heard much about
Speed Premium PC3500 512MB CL2.5 Winbond BH-5, 32*8/16chip, 433mhz, 184-P, which would cost 2 x 615 SEK for 2x512MB.

Corsair TWINX512-3200XL XMS3200 2x512Mb (tot. 1024Mb/1Gb) Dual DDR PC3200 XL 2-2-2-5 400MHz with Heatsink
would cost 2295 SEK.

any ideas?

It's not worth paying the extra bucks for the memory. Even value ram does decent job. Check this.

Corsair wouldn't be worth it. If I were buying a bit better memory for a64 system I would buy Crucial Ballistix pc-3200. It's gold editor's choise in anandtech does incredibly well as shown in the first link.

And the best part... 2x512 would cost you only 1750SEK (193e) including shipping. I live in Finland and even the crappiest memory here costs quite much so next month when I am making my upgrade I think I will order Ballistix pc-4000 would be a cost maybe 90SEK (10e) more.

I have the mobo and CPU you plan to get. I have replaced the chipset with a Thermalright NB-1 and running the fan at ~4,700 rpm, from ~7,000, and it's still loud. The Zalman NB47J is silent, but you need to have some airflow over it, especially if you are overclocking. With my CPU I reached 2.4 GHz (240x10) at 1.475V, 2.2 would be probably reachable at 1.425V or even 1.4V if you are lucky. But you definitely need a 24-pin PSU with good amperage on the 12V1 line, many people had problems with 20-pin PSUs and this mobo. The Freezer is going to be fine for you, right now while writing this my temps are 33C on the CPU, at stock speed, and reach 42C when playing FarCry. I use a Thermalright XP-90 with 92 mm fan at 1,600 rpm. For memory, if you are going to overclock only about 10%, then just get something that can handle that. I use two Kingmax DDR500 sticks (cheap) and could reach 250 'FSB' 1:1, but only at 2T timings - it is a mobo limitation, people eagerly expect Asus to fix it...

wow, that forum post really explanied it well. very interesting.

crucial ballistix seems very good, but they are only 150 less than corsair XMS 3200XL. i'll see what i do..

anyway, i cancelles my order for the athlon 3200+ winchester, as i learnt that venice core 3200+ will be out in april-may. ï'd rather wait for that, seems to be a great(er) cpu.
