Modding a stock P4 heatsink ?

l'm considering adding some extra heatsinking to the heatsink that came with my PC. lt's currently fitted with a fairly thin 70mm fan which l'd also like to change for an 80x25 item that l have here.
Anyone done anything similar ?
l realise that l could go out and buy a larger/better HS but funds are a little tight at the mo
