Im building a HTPC system and naturally want it as quiet as possible. An AMD XP-M 2400 on a DFI Lanparty Ultra B seems the way to go for undervolting and underclocking. Motherbard already purchased and now I'm going to order the CPU. Am I right in assuming that the 35W version will perform better when it comes to undervolting? I want to make my system as cool and quiet as possible.

The 35W can simply run within AMD's tolerances at lower voltages than the 45W models.

Desktop = 1.55V
XP-M 45W = 1.45V
XP-M 35W = 1.35V

I just got an XP-M 2400+ 35W and an EPoX 8RDA3I+ Pro, and it's running great sofar. I currently have it set to 200x10 @ 1.40V. You can get down to 1.1V, but anything lower than 1.4 can only be done through software.

I can get the 35W version on Abit NF7-S v.2.0 at 1.2V and 1200mhz, but anything lower becomes "iffy", meaning sometimes it posts sometimes it doesn't, so I left it at this and I'm able to cool it passively at 56.5C with prime on for about an hour, using the SI-97 heatsink.

Im also planning to use a SI-97, but not passively. Instead I'll put a nexus or panaflo 92 mm, running at 5V, on it. It will live in a desktop/htpc case so I'll mount the fan to suck air from the HS and duct it to a vent in the top of the case. In this environment it seems better to get the air out of the case as soon as possible. I hope that this, along with the PSU fan will move enough air. Air intake will be "passive" through a lot of holes along the side of the case.
