Pentium M in Socket 478 for desktop boards ?!?

Post by GentleGiant » Sun Jul 03, 2005 9:57 am

Intel lists Pentium Ms in 478 pin PPGA - Is this the standard desktop Socket 478? The other form factor listed is 479 pin H-PBGA. See Intel's Pentium M spec list

Newegg and ZipZoomFly list P-Ms in 478 - I'm trying to find if these will drop in a regular desktop motherboard. Would this be an easier solution than the Socket 479 Aopen or DFI boards like the i855GMEm-LFS ??

I've never come across a Socket 479 cpu listed anywhere, though I haven't really looked...

Is a specific motherboard required for Pentium M?

Yes.

A Pentium M processor will not work in a regular S478 socket/board. It will fit, but it won't work, and may very well be fried due to the different pinout of the regular S478 wiring scheme.

Don't forget Asus's adapter. But it only works with a few of Asus's i875 and i865 mobos.
