Greetings,

Quote:
* Two 64-bit, superscalar, out-of-order PowerPC processor cores with Altivec/VMX
* Two DDR2 memory controllers (one per core!)
* 2MB shared L2 cache
* I/O unit that has support for: eight PCIe controllers, two 10 gigabit Ethernet controllers, four gigabit Ethernet controllers
* 65nm process
* 5-13 watts typical @ 2GHz, depending on the application

[emphasis is mine]

:o :twisted:

Good CPU for a *nix based box. Since it's not x86 it won't run Windows.

I see these being used in proprietary firewall/router boxes. No idea if there will ever be a motherboard we can plug one into. Perhaps something pre-soldered like an EPIA.

If PA Semi can do it then AMD & Intel can do it (without making us pay silly money for mobile chips).

You say that as if PPC chips are actually affordable. I'll bet you Intel's mobile chips are still cheaper per operating cycle than the PowerPC chips.
