Lowest voltage for an Athlon xp mobile @2ghz?

Post by flapane » Tue Dec 30, 2008 8:07 am

Athlon xp mobile 2500+@2ghz, always used at 1.425...
I was wondering if I can go below 1.4 while being rock solid, to reduce heat and power consumption. The rig uses Linux and it isn't a personal one, so I can't make some torture testing.
Did anybody test lower voltages?
Now it idles at 36/37° at 1.4ghz

Hello,

It is pretty hard to know what voltage will be possible for a particular CPU -- they all vary to a certain extent. The best (only?) way is to just try it, I think.

I've seen some people run the XP-M at 1.1v at lower clock speeds. But usually the only way to get that low is by using 8rdavcore (windows only) as most mobos don't allow that low of vcore.

Others have used S2kctl to reduce temps by increasing the halt state and disconnecting the bus when not in use. Again, that utility is windows only.

I tried lowering to 1,375 but some apps seem to crash :(

FYI, I run my Barton 2500+ (not mobile) at 1.4v at stock speeds without issue.
