Xeon E3110 = rebranded E8400

Post by kevinfelker42 » Tue Feb 26, 2008 12:49 pm

I'm surprised I don't see anyone talking about this in the forum.

I ordered a Xeon E3110 for < $200 off buy.com shipped after I verified someone said it worked in a Gigabit P35 motherboard that was known to already support 45nm E8400s.

The consensus is that it is a rebranded E8400 for the low end server market since techies know the name Xeon.

It even has the same CPU ID and socket 775.

Yeah, that's what I heard too. Also, as it happens, I just bought one from eBay ...

Can't wait till it's in my possesion! Gonna be sweet to get rid of my FX-60 95 Watt monster. Although I am an AMD fanboi .. But the E8400 doesn't seem to be available in Europe anytime soon, or so I've heard.

Yikes, they’re asking about £40 more than other suppliers that have had them in the UK, not that anybody else seems to have them at the moment. You can get the E8200 from BT Shop for £118 delivered which has to be better than £176 for the E8400.

Overclockers are by far the most expensive supplier.........that's why I use Scan mostly myself.

Was just pointing about availability-not value :P

I use Scan predominately especially now that you can get free delivery on orders over £20 excluding VAT – see here for details.

OCUK tend to have good prices for RAM and some of their offers and clearance deals are good but apart from that I don’t use them

Ooh. I didn't know that offer was available. Could come in useful for me - if only I can remember my login details for AVforums...
