Recommend 775 low watt motherboard

Post by fredwatt » Wed Nov 04, 2009 10:48 am

Hi all, could any one recommend a low powered 775 motherboard to use with a GT220 for an audio/video server build (not atom)?

With the lack of nvidia IGP m/b availability, I was thinking of using a m/board with the 220 (7W idle) but was I didn't know how to source a reasonably low powered m/b?

Hi, it you want an Nvidia IGP board you could look at Gigabyte GA-73PVM-S2. Seams fairly available, the S2H version is slightly more but adds HDMI output, and few other changes.
Also I found XFX Nforce 9300 for sale. £50 for a 9300 board, that used to retail £80-90 looks like good value to me.

If you want to go discrete card route I’d suggest a cheap G31 or G41 based board as likely to be low power and can use the onboard video too, or add any video card you like. The G41 maybe newer manufacturing process and lower power than G31 and possibly take newer CPUs or over-clock higher speeds but I’ve not looked in to this.

Thank you for the feed back SebRad.

I have glanced at the XFX Nforce 9300, but it does NOT have HDCP. I need at least a 9300 to use VDPAU under linux, which is why I am scratching my head.

The only option I can think of is either a G31+GT220 (as you said), or the Zotac GeForce 9300-itx. Availabilty of NVIDIA IGP 9300+ dried up 2 months ago. I guess due to the 'bun fight' between NVIDIA & intel.

Maybe I should wait for clarksdale to appear. But under linux, early reading kind of says it might not good enough for h.264/HD. Shame there's no AMD video acceleration for linux, otherwise the 240e+m/b would have been a done deal.

Thank you once more for your thoughts :)
