DP67BG and Thermalright Ultra-120 Incompatibility

Post by wellanna » Tue May 10, 2011 1:28 pm

Hi,

My first post, so please be gentle

I have just purchased some components to make a quiet and efficient desktop PC. I have just discovered that the Thermalright Ultra-120, or more specifically the Thermalright LGA 1156 Bolt-Thru-Kit is not compatible with the Intel DP67BG motherboard.

The bottom of the DP67BG board underneath the CPU mounting area has some surface mount components which foul the edge of the CPU cooler back plate (see images), and prevent it from sitting flat with the motherboard.

Is this sort of problem common with CPU coolers and motherboards? Given the proximity of the surface mount components, I'm concerned other CPU coolers will suffer the same fate.

Can anyone recommend a quiet and efficient CPU cooler that will work with the DP67BG, or perhaps even a workaround to get the Ultra-120 operational?

Note, I am using a Antec Solo mini tower case.

Cheers, Neal.
