With 22nm Triagate around the corner, doesn't it make sense to wait?

SOI wafer, which adds ~10% to total ...

Recently Intel announced Trigate transistors that promise up to 50% lower power consumption. FD-SOI aka UTB-SOI promise to also lower power consumption but intel states SOI wafers increase production costs by 10%. But some markets, like mobile and SPCR is highly sensitive to power consumption. A 10% increase in CPU costs for say a 80% decrease in power consumption may justify higher expensive. A mobile processor with Trigate on SOI may sell at a premium, but a justified premium if the power reduction is greatly reduced.

Can Trigate be combined with FD-SOI for a synergistic reduction in power consumption? Can Trigate be combined with Suvolta technology?

Given that the intel is now shipping 35 watt icore, does this mean when Ivy bridge comes out, they can introduce 18 watt cpu's for same performance? Does Haswell propose even bigger gains?

One can largely ignore the factor of what may be around the next corner when deciding on this. What really matters is whether one can wait because the current system is still good enough for what you do with it. If it is, then wait. If not, find out what's available today that gives you the most for the money.
