Im in the market for a new CPU. and to be clear the socket 1155 cpus are way to many

so im a little confused what to buy? are there any nice low power Xeon's ? theres gonna be some gaming and some F@H.

Does it have to be a low power edition? For instance the i5-3450 doesn't really reach its 77W TDP in actual consumption and is relatively cheap. Easy to cool at normal speeds and can be undervolted a bit if necessary.

How is this compared to "old" 2500K ? it was ok, but i really wanted it e little cooler, and a little quiter

low power would be nice, Ive got ho proble paying a little more for a good chip.

If you have an existing i5-2500K and all you want is cooler and quieter....keep the 2500K and change the CPU cooler. You may only get a small bump in gaming performance (if any) moving to the equivalent i5-3570K Ivy Bridge. What is your current system/case/etc?

After reading the article on guru3d about cpu preformance during high resolution gaming ive desided that i do not need such at powerful cpu as the 2500K since it does not give anny more FPS. what i do ned is a cooler one.

ive sold the 2500K, and ive tried very hard to get it silent. undervolting, and several coolers. I do want to down grade, if thats a word.

case is silverstone SG05, gpu was gtx 580. but is probably gonna be a silent gtx 670 or something based on the GK110 chip if it ever comes

Here's a better article on CPUs for gaming at The Tech Report. Average fps is just one benchmark. You really need to look at stuff like min fps and frame latencies. Also, some games only make use of 2 physical cores, others can use more. Some games make use of hyperthreading, others don't.

Considering your case and the 244W TDP GPU you've stuffed in it, I don't think the 95W CPU was your problem. More likely, the GPU raised the ambient temp in the case to where your CPU cooler fan ran faster/louder. <shrugs>

If you want to dive toward the bottom in TDP, the new desktop dual core IVB's were released. You could get a 55W TDP 3.4GHz dual core with hyperthreading.

Considering your case and the 244W TDP GPU you've stuffed in it, I don't think the 95W CPU was your problem

I do not put a 244w gpu in a 10 liter case and cange the cpu for a cooler system case has a ghetto mod with the gpu cooler Accelero Xtreme PLUS II located externaly and minimum rpm. anny how, ive sold the 580, might go for a powercolor pcs 7870 but there has been some awsome rumors about next gen from amd.

I've decided on Xeon E3-1220V2, its probably cooler than the 2500K that managed 3,3ghz @ 0,996v. I hope the Xeon can go down to maby 0,9v - 0,95v and give just about the same preformance. and be cooled "passive" with thermalright axp 140.

I can't understand why you would waste money on a gpu if you don't play.

And to achieve more cool and more quiet, then i'd buy a SB-i3-CPU. Enough Ooomph for everyday use and can be cooled with ease.

what I ment to say was that i do not play, to many hardcore FPS games such as BF3. its mostly RPG's as skyrim, oblivion, whitcher 2 and so on. so Im not to sensitive when it comes to fps drops. but i do want them to run as smooth as possible @ ultra 1440p and 1080p depending on the monitor. so i need propper graphics

Ive installed the Xeon E3-1220V2, and just done some minor testing. and so far its a beauty, its does 3,2ghz@0,88V so its very nice. tried some quad F@H and cpu hits 58 celcius passive with the noctua NH-L12. allso experimenting with no psu fan, its just mounted upside dow, and generates almost no heat.
GPU is the "legenday" sapphire HD6850, i might put an arctic cooling passive on this but im not sure yet
