will my i5-2400 HD Graphics 2000 be enough for higher res?

I'm thinking of moving to a new 23+ inch monitor. My personal desktop PC has an Intel i5-2400 CPU which has integrated HD 2000 graphics. (I also have a PC dedicated to music playback with an Intel G530 CPU and integrated HD Graphics. I use a KVM switch to control both PCs from one set of keyboard, mouse and display.)

My current 19" monitor is running at 1280 by 1024 pixels. The new monitor will be at 1920 by 1080 pixels or even more if I go for a really big monitor. I'm wondering if the integrated graphics in these chips will be sufficient for 2D graphics for the Windows and applications interface. Interface performance is more critical for the i5-2400 since I use that PC all the time.

Thanks for any insight or actual experience.

Bill

Onboard graphics would be fine for that resolution. The limiting factor will be the bandwidth allowed by single link DVI which allows up to 1920x1200.

I believe Displayport output supports up to 2560 x 1600.

That is true but whether or not this individual chipset and motherboard might support dual link is something else. From what I've read, some do and some don't so it might be down to individual models of chipset or motherboard.
