Is there any way to patch up a cracked LCD screen?

I first was going to put this in OT, but then I felt that this topic really belongs in here despite being more useful for things other than PCs.
I'm wondering if there's any way to make a damaged LCD screen display better.
I noticed that pressing down on it seemed to make it worse, so the first thing I've tried was using scotch tape to pull at parts of the screen, that didn't help at all.
I know there's other ways to make a device with a cracked screen usable, I heard rockbox has a version designed for sightless operation, and I bet a version of linux could be made that would use only parts of a screen, and from everything I hear making a cracked LCD screen good as new is not practical at all, but I'm thinking, if there was some technique to making one a bit less broken, even that would be a pretty useful trick.
