Im looking to replace the Nvidia 7300GS in my desktop as it is starting to play up, when water cooling my CPU, i didnt have a fan on it , and it got very hot, and now only works 50% of the time, other times, i get red lines down the screen.

Requirements for the new 1:

Dual Head , prefably Dual VGA, but 1 vga and 1 dvi is fine
Run cool
Cheap

I dont play games, so i dont need a monster of a card.

There is the MSI NX9400GT, which is available for £45 from here http://www.quietpc.com/gb-en-gbp/products/vga-cards/msi-nx9400gt-md512h. Claims 2x performance increase over the 8400 but then it is just over 2x the price - so your choice.

Thanks for the reply :

i dont really need graphics performance, just enough to run 2 1440*900 screens. I was looking at this card, for 9.99 http://www.quietpc.com/gb-en-gbp/produc ... 00-td128eh

Has anyone here used this card? any good or bad experiences?

Thanks Markp1989

http://www.ebuyer.com/product/154994/ I was looking at the 9500GT and was thinking of getting this, and folding on the core aswell.

im just wana know how much power this card uses?

according to extreme power supply calculator it uses 44w of power, seems abit higher then i thought it woud be ?
But then again, that site says my desktop will use 180W but it uses 130 so i dont know how accurate this is
Thanks Markp1989

I would classify a graphics card as green if it uses just the power from the PCI-Express slot. There is a 9800gt now which falls into this category, see http://www.ebuyer.com/product/171941. But clearly the higher powered GPUs are not going to be completely silent, unlike the 8400 and 9400 models. And I suspect that something like the 9800gt would in any case be too much for your power supply.

Edit: The 9800gt Green draws 75w compared to the 'non-Green' power consumption of 105w. The 30w reduction is enough to eliminate the need for external power.

I used to have a 8400 GS power requirement was about 20W max but it needed a low speed fan. I have an Intel integrated video now an is fine for me.
9500GT will probably require about 40W an it will be a bit noisy first nr 7xxx 8xxx 9xxx is representing generation 9xxx newer the second x4xx is about how powerful is it smaller number is low end.
If you want a passive one then it need to be under 12W I do not know now but I think Nvidia is not very low power. For example your 7300 was 9W idle to 16W max.
The only real passive card I used was a Nvidia 5200

My suggestion is to sell your p45 (22W) MB and buy one with Q45 or Q43 (17W) less power and integrated video. PicoPSU will also be happy.

The PicoPSU 150 is not really recommended on your system I have a G31 (15.5W) motherboard and no dedicated video card and the load on 5V is more than 5A it may be that you are exceeding the 6A your PicoPSU is specified for 5V line and this creates your problems.

If your MB has built in graphics and dual DVI then I'd say just use that. Integrated graphics have come a long way and these days they are fine for everything but gaming.

Some options:
Cheap:
ATI HD 2400 Pro= about 10 watts
ATI HD 2400XT= almost 20 watts
Faster:
7300GT= 25 watts
8500GT= 27 watts
8600GT= 30 watts
ATI HD 2600 Pro= 31 watts

The 7300GT and the ATI HDs have AGP version. They consume a bit more power because of the additional bridge chip.
