Fast fanless 802.11n wireless router?

Post by halcyon » Mon Jan 04, 2010 2:58 am

My router gave up and warranty is up, so it's time to upgrade.

I've been looking at Netgear WNDR3700, which has gotten nice reviews:

However, I cannot find any information about whether the box has a built-in fan - not to mention if it's susceptible to coil whine like some other routers I've tested (particular Billion models).

If anybody has one, could drop in with a note whether the unit has a fan and if there are other noises emanating from the unit?

Thanks!

No Fan, just got a confirmation. No idea on coil whine, but will report back when I have a unit and have it installed.

I've had one of these for about three months now. It's proven to be a great router so far. Strong wireless signal, no dropped connections, and top notch performance (well, in 5GHz anyway -- way too much traffic in the 2.4GHz range).

As far as noise goes, I don't think it's an issue. It seems quiet to me, but living in the city, I also have a higher noise floor.
