Using a 2.5" hdd in QNAP TS-119?

Post by Morten74 » Fri Oct 08, 2010 1:40 am

Hi Guys

Having changed my PSU to an AX750 (pictures and temps to come) has briught the (almost) silence back to my quiet gamer PC - only noise is the ATI 5850 with stock cooler and I can live that. Unfortunately (you know how it is), I can now hear my QNAP TS-119 NAS sitting on my besk behind the monitor. The NAS is cooled passively, but the WD 3200AAKS drive makes some noise. As I could use the extra storage anyway, I'm considering replacing the drive with a 2.5" Seagate Momentus 500GB drive. I already have a Momentus in my HTPC and find it VERY silent to my needs. I use the NAS to stream ripped DVDs over Wifi to my HTPC among other things (but this is the most demanding task in terms of transfer speeds).

Could I maybe suspend the 2.5" drive in some bungee in the NAS - this would require that I get some cables to connect the drive to the NAS - a 3.5" drive just slides into the connectors?

Other suggestions?

 Morten
