Google analytics/syndication Javascript slowdowns

Post by zoob » Mon Sep 10, 2007 11:13 pm

Hey,

Tonight I couldn't browse many sites like SPCR, Slashdot, [H], but other sites that run no/very little ads like XtremeSystems and RFD load no sweat. I recall seeing this article about Javascript slowing down the loading of webpages.

After disabling Javascript, everything loads very fast. With it enabled, I see Firefox waiting for Google analytics and syndication. Pretty frustrating.

Suggestion #1 from that article is making use of the defer tag. Could SPCR perhaps implement this?

Wouldn't work. The slowdowns are because external scripts are slow to load, while the defer attribute defers their execution when they are loaded.
