You piqued my curiosity so I read more about the newer 24-pin connectors and the addition of the four extra pins to supply additional +3.3V, +5V, and +12V paths to the motherboard.

Rather than selectively supply components as you did, could I achieve a similar result by bringing a +3.3V, +5V, +12V, and common wire from the 20-pin connector of the second 130W PSU into a 4-pin connector and connect it to the four remaining pins (11, 12, 23, and 24) of the 24-pin motherboard connector? So rather than me choosing which components to power from each PSU, I would let the motherboard use the power available from the two 130W PSUs supplied to the 24-pin connector. Wouldn't the motherboard then see a 260W power supply and use it appropriately? Thanks!

Sorry it will not work. The additional 4 pin on the motherboard are redundant and make sens to use them only if the computer is using more than 350W they are directly connected with the other corresponding pins from the first 20pins.
The reason you can not connect the PSU in parallel is because they have very small variation in startup time and the one that will start first will need to charge also the capacitors from other PSU the startup current will be to high and the overcurrent protection will shut down the PSU.

Hi,
Can the following system be powered by the convertor you selling? especially for 4 HDDs spinsups?

1. board - GA-D525TUD
2. ram - 1x2G DDR3
3. hdd - (its four HDDs) 4x3.5 old Maxtor DiamondMax 10 , 7.200 , 160G
4. 1x80mm case fan
5. 1x boot OS USB stick
6. 1x Slim CD/DVD RW Combo, like on laptops.

SPCR says the board and CPU draws 64 watts at full CPU load with one stick of RAM, one 2.5" drive, and one optical drive. http://www.silentpcreview.com/article943-page5.html

Assuming a second HDD adds 5w, the second RAM stick is another 5w, and the video card draws a maximum of 45w (http://www.overclockersclub.com/reviews ... 570/19.htm) the maximum stress load would be 129w. :D

If you're not going to be playing really intensive games at maximum graphics settings I think you'll be just fine.

You have the GF9300 why will you also need the 5450 or 5570?
The 5450 will use max 20W so you will be fine but the 5570 will use to much so I will not recommend.
Thanks Fire-Flare for your answer.

I've had my system running couple of days now with the 120W converter from electrodacus.

Intel Atom D525MWV
1GB RAM
2x SATA HD 7200rpm
2x IDE HD 7200rpm
PCI -> IDE card
12V 0.2A fan
20V 4.5A laptop power brick

Too much for the brick?

Today the system shut down abruptly (while installing windows under vmware). Powerbrick indicator led stayed on, but the led on motherboard turned off. It wouldn't restart before I unplug/replugged AC. Does this indicate it ran out of watts?

I just checked the manual for the D525MWV and they used one DVD and one 2.5" HDD and the power consumption on 5V was 4.85A max under load and you can use a max of about 7A so maybe with 4 HDD and PCI to IDE card you can exceed the 5V current limit protection the 3.3V and 12V are absolutely no problem but most of the power needed is from the 5V.
Is not directly run out of watts since you probably do not use more than 50W but most of the load is on the 5V unfortunately.
I do not have a simple solution for this probably removing one or two of the HDD the IDE are probably using more but not sure what models you have or use an additional power supply for the HDD's but that will not be so easy.
If you want to return the PSU for an refund no problem but most of this small ATX PSU do not give more than 5A to 7A on the 5V.

Thanks for the explanation. I was able to reproduce the problem, and indeed it's gone once I removed the two IDE drives. They are relatively small, so it's not a terrible loss.

All four HDs are 5V 0.74A. Couldn't find the info for my PCI IDE card, but googled 5V 0.15A for a similar looking one.

Since many people (almost all) are requesting AC adapters I decided to sell one.
Is a good efficiency the best I had not the same manufacturing quality as the 150W I sold in the past but is more efficient. I need to open one and make a review soon.

i think i'm going to buy one of these to see if it can support a powered pci-express card (passive radeon 5750). i don't really mind if it can't, since i can just run without the video card if needs be, but it's piqued my curiosity.

the plan is to use the two molex connectors (on the 20-pin cable and the psu board itself) for a molex to 6-pin pci-express adapter cable, and a sata power splitter cable to run a dvd burner and a 128gb ssd. the cpu will be an intel i3 530 undervolted on a gigabyte h55n-usb3 motherboard. i'm going to try pairing it with the ac adapter from ebay auction 200592316314.

the entire system is running right now with a squealing antec neo he 550w psu, and from the wall it idles around 75w (probably around 55w dc or so with this psu, which still seems very high). the highest load figure i've hit is 113w from the wall (~85-90w dc) so i'm excited to see what's possible with this!

The HD5750 should use 16W idle and 86W load so that will for sure be to much for only one PSU
Also about the AC adapter on eBay, you need to ask what is the pin output configuration it may have different pin-out.

I guess this are the idle and load for the computer not including the 5750 if so the idle seems quite high but is probably the efficiency of the PSU.
I will soon post a video on youtube with more details about the power supply I just need to edit the video.

Powercolor has a Go! Green model that doesn't require a 6-pin PCI-E cable http://www.powercolor.com/Global/produc ... asp?id=237. It does save a little bit of power.

I did a build with an i7-860, but I did the Fanless 130Wx2 ATX PSU with 220W AC adapter for more power.

Thanks for the input.
All this fanless graphic cards are not really fanless they need good air circulation so you will need a fan even is is not mounted on the GPU.
Hope the new 28nm GPU's will be quite low TDP.
The AMD Llano APU was quite a disaster at 32nm regarding power consumption.

Do you still sell the DC-DC psu itself? I see you still have ebay listings up in your ebay profile. Also, do you happen to have an adapter to accept laptop barrel connectors (like the one on the pico-psu)?

Yes I still sell the DC-DC separately and I have just the 5.5x2.5mm connector if you need one I will include free of charge but you will need a P4 cable easy to find probably 1$ on eBay and you will need to solder that to the 2.5mm connector.
Sorry I did not answered sooner.

Very interesting thread and device here! I found it from this thread when I asked about building a home server/HTPC system.

Im planning on buying this when I have the money to buy the gear :) I have a couple of questions tho that I didnt see in the thread and your Ebay page. I need a complete kit with cables to connect atleast 4-6 HDDs and this motherboard :) Do you sell that? I dont wanna build my own cables for it..

EDIT: hm just saw that you are gonna stop selling this soon :/ Do you still have the cables left that I need for the HDDs? Will someone else have it when you have quit?

I do not have cables for multiple HDD you can find some molex to SATA cables on eBay or you can build your own.

So I'm finally going to use my Winmate to build out my new HTPC/file server and I believe I'll need a custom solution for mounting the power supply.

Here are my questions:

1. I think the easiest way to mount my PS would be to do so internally, away from the back edge of the case (Silverstone ML03B). To do this, I assume I will need to buy/make an adapter from the 4-pin power connector and likely run the extension to the 4 pin atx on the PS. Would this item from ebay work?

http://www.ebay.com/itm/5x-Power-DIN-4- ... 460289d35a

Would it be a simple process to solder some wires from the connectors on that unit to a 4 pin molex-like head? The main reason I"m asking is that I need to know if this is the correct adapter AND whether it'll be simple to solder to those featureless pins.

2. I saw that you had some fancy mounting pins in another thread. What hardware are folks using to mount this unit to their cases?

Thanks in advance for your help on this slowly decaying thread. :(

Hi. I've ordered two PSUs and M7700 adapter to outfit a music server. Generous sharing by others informs me of the usefulness of seperating 'clean/jitter-sensitive' devices from 'dirty/mechanical' devices and their power demands. While I might not NEED 2 PSUs (wattage wise), I am trying to incorporate this theory of segregation, and I would love some advice on the implimentation. Would this be workable or misguided:

PSU 1 (dirty):
2- 90mm fans
1- 120mm fan (will kick on only if needed)
3- 3T WD green AV hard drives

PSU 2 (clean):
CPU i5-2500T
MOBO Asus P8Z77-M pro
1- Crucial 128G M4 SSD
possible power splice into USB hub delivering audio out to DAC (?)

In the parrallel useage laid out previously, the CPU and MOBO power are delivered from different units; is that necessary?
Should the MOBO connection 'cross-integration' previously described be handled the same way?
Any suggestions?

- THANKS
