Low -5.00V, normal?

Post by NeedQuietPC » Fri Jun 25, 2004 9:35 pm

I just installed an Enermax Noistaker (370W) and noticed that Motherboard Monitor detects my voltages as:

Core 0: 1.73 V
Core 1: 1.25 V
+3.3: 3.33 V
+5.00: 5.08 V
+12.00: 12.40 V
-12.00: -12.27 V
-5.00: 3.60 V

Take a look at the last line, "-5.00" is 3.60? Is this something to worry about? After installing the PSU, my BIOS freezes at the "Hardware Monitor Setup" screen (where the temperatures and fan speeds are listed). Is this somewhat related?

I replaced this 370W with my old 300W PSU, so there should be plenty of juice in the new PSU to power everything in the system.

Any help appreciated.

MBM says 0.00 for mine (using Generic "Turbolink" 350W PSU)

I asked aabout this on the OCforums and some guy told me that I shouldn't worry about the -12 and -5 lines ???

It's true, they're not important, and the board sensors could also be wrong.

A quick search would reveal that these lines are never used in modern ATX motherboards, and because they have no load on them, they produce erratic voltages.

Thanks for the assurance guys. After installing my new PSU, my system would freeze once I enter the "Hardware Monitor Setup" window in the BIOS so I was wondering if it could've been a bad PSU.

I've tried resetting the CMOS, the siren emits saying "CPU fan is not running". If I ignore that message, WinXP Home boots up fine and Motherboard Monitor detects the fan speeds and temperatures OK.

There's a total of three fan connectors on the board: CFAN1, PFAN1, and SFAN1. I've tried...
#1 - Connecting a high RPM fan into the CFAN1 and CPU fan ran on PFAN1. Still freezes...
#2 - Connecting a high RPM fan into CFAN1. CPU fan ran on a molex. PFAN1 and SFAN1 are empty. Still freezes...
#3 - CFAN1, PFAN1, SFAN1 all empty, CPU fan connected to molex only. Still freezes...

Which other connection(s) is/are worth checking?

Thanks!

Another update... I've flashed my BIOS to the latest version, still freezes though...

Can you just disable monitoring in the BIOS?

Is there a way to disable monitoring the -5.00 voltage?

I think I may have found the problem after extensive web searching. It's PSU related...
http://www.msi-polska.pl/program/e_serv ... &faq_id=97

MSI doesn't have the latest BIOS for my board that solves this problem unlike in the link. I was a bit fishy why my "-5.00" voltages were kinda low.
