Good PSU for <$80?

Post by FeRsHiZzLe » Sun Apr 15, 2007 10:18 am

I want at least 400W, and I'm more concerned about quality than noise, but obviously still want it quiet. I was going to get a 500W Thermaltake from Newegg, but I found out it didn't have a PCI-E connector, which is necessary. Suggestions please. :?

Well, I'd first suggest you give the good folks at the SPCR forum a least a hint on your rig - untill people know what system you're running, their suggestions might be not so accurate.
BTW - you can get molex > PCI-E connectors with gfx cards or just buy them separately, so if the PSU has no such connectors, it's not the end of the world.
You might want to stay away from Tt PSU's and only limit your interest in this brand to Big Typhoon and Schooner coolers. That is, if you really don't care about noise. OTOH, they sure make good quality boxes.

As kater said we need more info.

You may not need 400+ watts to run what you have or plan to build.

In any case you can use one of these brands
seasonic s12
SILVERSTONE
antec
FSP

The 580W Mushkin for $89 is a great buy but above your limit (shameless hint). If you like tanks and modular jobs.

This one is clearly worth looking at. Judging by shipping costs this is one of the heaviests power supplies available through NewEgg. And its got power up there in that popular wazoo area.

And it's non AFPC 500W little brother is $29 after the rebate. HS!

Rebate ends 4/22.
