For that you need 400, up to 500 Watts. Not a PSU with such a rating, but real power. Look in SPCR articles such as this one and see how loud various PSUs are at these levels.
Unfortunately SPCR didn't review your Silverstone PSU, but it did its little brother. If there is any family resemblance, it would be too loud.
As you can see, Zalman 850/1000 should be quiet, Enermax 625 louder, others too loud. Though at load the Radeon 4870x2 noise will dominate and I don't know if there'll be any subjective difference in total noise with different non-lawnmower PSUs.

That article on the ST56F was from two years ago, the new ST70F is a much quieter (especially at higher loads) unit. We would certainly love for SPCR to test it though, as soon as they can finish the other PSUs we sent earlier this year!Elvellon wrote:Unfortunately SPCR didn't review your Silverstone PSU, but it did its little brother. There are some reports on the web that the Enermax Modu82+ 625W will not boot 4870 x2 systems, so you might care to discount that choice.
The issue with the 4870 x2 is that it runs very hot under load, about 90c with loads of noise from the current reference coolers. Given that I am not sure how much difference a "quieter" PSU would make but if it was me I would want a PSU which could cope with the heat being generated by the graphics card.
Based on reviews like the one at http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/Zalm ... -HP/1.html I would lean towards the Zalman ZM850.

Glad to hear it! More quiet PSUs = nice.SST Guy wrote:the new ST70F is a much quieter (especially at higher loads) unit.
Sad to hear that it's not a unique problem .lodestar wrote:There are some reports on the web that the Enermax Modu82+ 625W will not boot 4870 x2 systems, so you might care to discount that choice.
