Promising Tagan 480W PSU review

Hi im not sure if someones posted this already but this tagan 480w psu seems like a very high quality psu for a good price. I think it *seems* quite good for those looking for a high powered/quiet solution although i doubt it'd be as quiet as some 300 or 350w psus.

What intrigued me about its design is how well it was thought out especially heatsink wise. Its a very good heatsink design that has a LOT of surface area to aid cooling. It mentions about how quiet the psu is too.

The reviews ive found are good but imo not as comprehensives as SPCR's. How about you get one of these guys in for testing mike?

I saw this for sale at scan.co.uk just last week and was certainly tempted to give it a try. Fan clicking sounds a bit worrying though.
Shame I didn't see it last month when I needed a psu with EPS 12v connector for a dual Xeon at work. At least I could have tested it on their budget not mine

I'm not shure it's the fan. Search the forum for comments on
the Tagan 380W version, like:

It's not the fan. I've tried two of them and they both had annoying ticking noises. I agree it does sound like a hard drive accessing as Maxamus says.

Wierd, i suppose that psu is out of the question then for us spcrs'. Have you tried changing the fans? It looks like itt'd be a good psu otherwise.

I’m personally sold on Enermax NoiseTakers, but if you’re considering the Tagans, perhaps check out the OCZ modified versions. I don’t know if they cure the clicking – read the reviews...

The Tagan 480 was actually the only contender to the Enermax Noisetaker 475 I've fancied, when I was chosing a PSU for my high-end system.

In the end, the reasons that turned me away from the Tagan were these (unverified, as I didn't buy it - just stating my reasons) - my apologies if I can't recall where the links are, for review that I'd based my opinion on:
- Tagan reported to be running VERY hot.
- Tagan reportedly not overly quiet (by SPCR standards).

- The Noisetaker's ATX 1.3 spec is a nice bonus, as is it's pretty impressive adherence to the voltage variances (1-2%).
- The seperate 12V rail is a DARN good idea, IMHO
- As is the "extra" Molex channel, for a graphics card (800XT / 6800 Ultra anyone?).

There is mostly one bone of contention I have with the Noisetaker, that is it's rather stiff cabling - it makes it downright impossible to lay the cable under the motherboard. But, all in all, it doesn't seem to be doing a whole world of damage to my airflow. :)

My support is case for the Enermax Noisetaker 475 - a darn fine and silent PSU :).
