Enermax 431W - Safe to use one Silent 80mm?

Post by Raider » Tue Aug 13, 2002 8:34 am

I want to make my Enermax EG-465P-VE 431W as quiet as possible, so I was thinking of removing the 92mm internal one, and replacing the external 80mm one with a Ystech Silent 80mm.

The silent fan specs are as follows:
Speed - 1850RPM
Output - 27CFM
Decibels - 20dBA

Will this be enough to cool my Enermax?

Sounds reasonable to me, as long as your ambient room temp isn't past 30C consistently and your PC components don't draw huge amounts of power.

30C? You kidding, I live in the UK, that means 23C at the peak of summer, and generally very wet :)

I followed you're excellent article on the Enermax modding, but I haven't got my silent fan yet, but so far so good.

What I really need to do is silence my 60mm cpu fan. Although I don't think my XP1700 can take any less cooling :(

If you're using the stock AMD HSF, dump it & get something better that you can use an 80mm fan with. No way to make a 60mm fan quiet AND get decent airflow. There are lots of better HS that are not expensive. Look in SPCR's recommended list http://www.silentpcreview.com/goto.php?t=s&id=30&a=1%20or www.overclockers.com or www.dansdata.com.

Its ok, I'm about to upgrade, so I was probably going to go for a P4 setup. I'll get the Alpha HS, then use a fairly quiet 80mm.

Plus I'm about to buy a Coolermaster 110 alu. case. I plan to replace the 4 fans in that with 4 silent Papsts (12db each), so that should help things along :)
