I have never heard an S12. So I can't give you any 100% guarantee, but...

It has the same fan controller.
It has the same fan (as the first version of the S12) minus the RPM wire.
It has (about?) the same high efficiency.

So I can't think of any reason why it would sound different. I certainly have never heard a fanned PSU that made less sound when in use than this one.

As this is a OEM PSU the following things are NOT included: power cable, installation guide, cable management kit, screws, 24-to-20-pin ATX adapter, warranty sheet, and a 4-pin IDE to two 5V and a 12V fan headers.

Does anyone know where I can get a 4-pin IDE to two 5V and a 12V fan headers converter from in the UK?
Or failing that, a proper name for it so I can search about myself.

Thanks,

Matt

Thanks Tibors,

I've just bought the SS-401HT from Xcase. A bit peeved that they advertised it as an OEM S12-430 without mentioning the differences. All they said was the colour different.
As a result I've just spent all day on this forum trying to find out if I've been ripped off but I've concluded that all I really need is these fan cable adapters to make it functionally the same.

Ta muchly.

I just purchased an SS-301HT full range from http://sh-edv-vertrieb.de/. After opening it, I noticed it has the same Adda fan and Japanese caps as the new version of the S12's. Just for you to know :)

The prices for the 301 HT of sh EDV are quite interesting, more than one year ago I had to pay about EUR 38 at condat.com (their shop is down, so I can't tell the price over there).

http://www.geizhals.at/eu/a163902.html. In case anybody has some problem with German I could try to translate. The prices include VAT (16%).[/quote]

By the way: my 301HT with Yate Loon fan still works without any problems and it is still very very quiet
