Have bought one of these Cherokee 150 watt open frame PSU's from All Electronics. I wired up the AC in, and the voltages seemed to check out. The -12V is isolated, but can be(?) grounded with the rest. This PSU has no -5V!
I was not able to make this work with an ATX mobo. It may be my soldering job. It may be the lack of -5V. It may be that I need the signal logic for the power good line when the system is coming up. Dunno.
Would sure like to have had that Jameco ATX cable for the thing, it may have made the difference!
Am very interested if anyone here has been able to get one of these aluminum housed open frame PSU's to work. I love my TK Power 300, but certainly want something less expensive.... Don't need 300 Watts, either, as the completely silent PC's that I like build will never draw even 100W.
I am trying to get a sample of the PW-1XXA-0XY from PowerWin at http://www.power-win.com/ind-openframe.htm
. My hopes are not high for it though as it probably does not have active power factor correction, and it does not have a big sturdy "U" housing/sink. Any info on fanless 1U style open frame PSU's would be appreciated! This is, of course, the "holy grail" of a completely silent PC. There are some German companies that make these as well as TK, but they are even more expensive to order. I cannot find one for less than US$144.
