NX-4090 Fan runs over 3000rpm?

Post by Why me? » Fri Aug 12, 2005 2:49 pm

Howdy!

I think something is very very wrong now...

I have this Nexus Breeze Case with NX-4090 PSU. Everest, SiSoft Sandra and BIOS tells that PSU Fan run's over 3000 RPM!! I's this normal? Tought this should be silent system, but it's definitely not!

-DFI Lanparty Ultra-D
-3200+ Venice & Zalman 7700Cu
-Club3d x800XL & AC Silencer 5
-1Gb DDR
etc etc...

Hope U guys can help me..

Thanks

Unplug the RPM monitoring cable from the motherboard.

That seems to help in most cases. For some weird reason PSUs like to run their fan full-blast when the RPM monitoring is plugged into the motherboard.

hmmm.. where can I find this cable? There is just ATX 20+4-pin power cable, P4 and 4-pin molex connected from PSU to mobo

Is it possible that PSU's heat sensor is too near something very warm component? I've heard something like that.

Nevermind then, there isn't one. Some PSUs do have one.

I'm clueless then, sorry.

Are your system temps within the normal range? If not, the PSU could be drawing in hot air and that would explain its frantic attempts to cool down. If they are normal, I would RMA the PSU.

I believe the Nexus Breeze channels all the exhaust air through the PSU? If that's the case then it wouldn't be unusual that the PSU fan would constantly ramp up as this isn't an ideal design.

It's probably not the PSUs fan, because if there's no cable plugged in, the motherboard can't possibly know how fast it's running.

It's probably either a case fan or your CPU fan.

Are you sure that you monitoring the PSU fan?
Just because the Nexus-NX-4090 yate loon fan can run at maximum 1600RPM.

Yeah, haven't thought of that.

If thre's no signal on the sensor, boards have been known to make up numbers.

If you are certain that it's the PSU fan that's making the excessive noise, it might be return material indeed.
