Power usage?

Not directly related, but I'm wondering how much power a pc (including speakers and monitor and everything else you can think of) uses. And if you have any I'd be welcome to hear any suggestion to lower the usage.

Hello Gandalf:
This article at Dan's Data is a pretty thorough look at this subject:

The
Recommended PSUpage has some notes about PSU requirements. Generally, in most complete systems, it is the monitor that usually consumes the most power.

Hi Gandalf...
The article at dansdata.com is very accurate about power use. (BTW...I'm the one who did the measurements he refers to regarding motherboards.)
While doing some testing for a review that I'm writing I made some measurements that might be helpful in answering your questions.
In a P4 system with 2 HD's, CDRW, 256M of RAM and a 15" LCD monitor I was only able to consume ~92 watts from the power supply while running Prime95, a disk defrag and a CD to HD copy simultaneously. The AC power consumed by the PS was measured at 1.4amps at 115 volts (=161watts). The LCD monitor consumed ~35watts.
