in my old computer (250w) i switched the psu fan with a panaflo. very pleased with the results. a few weeks ago i got a new system and did the same to a 400w psu, but it runs a bit louder. would there be any problems running my new system off the 250w psu?
my 250w powered
msi 6167 motherboard
amd 650 athlon classic
256 pc 100
2 x hdd
1 x dvd
1 x floppy
geforce 2 gts (fan removed)
sblive
tvcard
56k modem
network card
3 x fans @ 7v (cpu, intake, over gpu)
and an occasional usb device
now my 400w powers
asus a7n8v
amd xp 2600+
256 ddr 400
1 x hdd
1 x dvd
1 x floppy
geforce 4 4200 (fan removed)
tvcard
(nic and sound are built in)
4 x panaflo @ 5v-7v (cpu, intake, exhaust, on gpu)
and an occasional usb
thanks

Which PSUs are they? Make/model. Seems like you might be pushing current limits if it is a typical generic 250W. The geforce 4 4200 and amd xp 2600+ both draw considerably more current than the equiv. components in your old system. Why not mod your 400?

wow.. a reply from the admin
the 400w is made by uneec
model:HPC-400-101
the 250w is from fong kai (fki)
model:ATX-250-1
both are running panaflo Ls, but for some reason the 400w is noticably louder. kind of a hollow echoing sound. i think the 250w may be undervolted a bit, but i cant really tell.
