What changes were made in Seasonic 600 watt Rev A3?

According to the review, Rev A1 (600 watt version) had the ADDA fan. Anyone know what changes they made in Rev A2?

They did something with the cables, but I don't know if that is all they did.

That's not the one I have. My revision A2 has cables that look like this photo from the review:

It's not the A2, must be newer model/revision.

Newegg has some picturesof the new sleeving. Order at your own risk though; all of their recent reviews complain of no sleeving. A guy over @ [H]says that the S12-500 he recently bought from ZZF had the sleeving.

This is weird. The one on Newegg says Rev. A1 and the photo shows sleeved cables!

Plus, the serial number on mine is higher than the one on newegg, and I have Rev. A2 without sleeved cables.

As for the soft mount cushion that's in the new version according to a link in another thread, the old SS from a year or so ago had that listed on the box and mine doesn't.

What about Soft-mounting rubber cushions? Isn't that something new in this version?

Noise Reduction Features:
# Smart & Silent Thermal Fan Control
# 12cm ball bearing cooling fan
# Soft-mounting rubber cushions
# Ultra ventilation through honey comb structure

JVM,

Is R0412 or December 2004 the manufacturing date? I think it's just an old pic because you can still see that silly plastic Dr. Cable crap in the S12-500 pictures.

I know it's frustrating dude but these manufacturers need a swift kick in the nuts. They need to come up with different SKUs like S12-500 mkII or NeoHE Version 2.0. If they won't do that then they should at least put the Revision numbers on the OUTSIDE of the box. Bastards. :)

I don't know for certain, but I think R0412 relates to the manufacturing date. I know mine says R0510 and could be October 2005.

IIRC rev A2 was released to fix incompatibilities with some DFI boards.

the new, 'sleeved S12' should be rev A3 or something like that.

It's possible to determine the version of the S12 by looking at the box since the box design have been changed.

The description about new version of 600 watt Seasonic says "Highly reliable aluminum electrolytic capacitors" instead of "Long Lived Aluminum Electrolyctic Capacitor: High Grade Japanese components" --taken from www.Case-Mod.com

Where have I seen that before...? Wasn't that from the A2 revision?

Lol. See the difference between capacitor and capacitors? I guess that means they have more than one now. Corporations are so funny.

Thanks for the hard work Tephras. If it wasn't for your observation, how the hell would the average customer know the difference? It was nice of case-mod to have separate listings, but newegg and zzf don't. I'm not picking on Seasonic and as I stated before that all manufacturers should have clear labeling on the package (did you hear me Antec :!:). And maybe Seasonic lists the Revision # on that white label. If they do then I apologize to them.

JVM, sorry for hijacking your thread. Won't happen again.

I think both A1 and A2 revision say "Long Lived Aluminum Electrolyctic Capacitor"

It's this new version that says "Highly reliable aluminum electrolytic capacitors" - according to www.Case-Mod.com

First the A1/A2 revision is mentioned here:

http://www.silentpcreview.com/article226-page4.html

and discussed here:

http://forums.silentpcreview.com/viewtopic.php?t=22278

I believe that the A1 revision had a Yate Loon fan and the A2 had an ADDA fan. There was a capacitor change as well but it might as well be totally dismissed as a marketing item as the warranty coverage makes that change academic.

Now as to the A3 or whatever it will be called,
rpsgc wrote:What's new?

 9 HDD connectors (previously 6) - 500 & 600W models

 6 SATA connectors (previously 4) - 500 & 600W models
 Longer (black) sleeved cables - All
 RoHS compliant - All
Apart from the fact that none of these changes relate to the A1 A2 comparison there are some errors:

As seen in my post at http://forums.silentpcreview.com/viewto ... ht=#254062 The old S12 models were

330w S12 = 5
380w S12 = 5
430w S12 = 6
500w S12 = 6 + 2 PCIe
600w S12 = 6 + 2 PCIe

So you'd need to change that first bit to:

 6 HDD connectors (previously 5) - 330 & 380W models
 6 HDD connectors (no change) - 430W model
 9 HDD connectors (previously 6) - 500 & 600W models

next I never bothered to list the SATA connectors but they were:

330w S12 = 2
380w S12 = 2
430w S12 = 2
500w S12 = 3
600w S12 = 4

Assuming casemods listings are correct the new list is

330w S12 = 4
380w S12 = 4
430w S12 = 4
500w S12 = 6
600w S12 = 6

But who knows, they might have just gotten lazy, maybe the 500 watt is still the odball on the SATA list.

So the next bit needs to be changed, presumably to

 4 SATA connectors (previously 2) - 330, 380 & 430W models
 6 SATA connectors (previously 3) - 500W model
 6 SATA connectors (previously 4) - 600W model

And you missed the biggest official change of all:

 1 PCIe power connector (previously 0) - 330, 380 & 430W models

as the vast majority of us retail customers didn't get a PCIe power connector with our A1 or A2 S12 power supplies.

So for a wrapup we have

 6 HDD connectors (previously 5) - 330 & 380W models
 6 HDD connectors (no change) - 430W model
 9 HDD connectors (previously 6) - 500 & 600W models

 4 SATA connectors (previously 2) - 330, 380 & 430W models
 6 SATA connectors (previously 3) - 500W model
 6 SATA connectors (previously 4) - 600W model

 1 PCIe power connector (previously 0) - 330, 380 & 430W models

 Longer (black) sleeved cables - All

 RoHS compliant - All

feel free to correct, contradict, or add to the list if you know something...

Not exactly true. I bought my S12-600 in an old style box (as you say) and it was revision 2. It's possible that all PSUs in the new box are A2 revision, however the old style box it seems may carry both revisions.

The new box is for the latest revision (A3, F3, whatever it is called). A1 and A2 used the old box design.

Maybe, but I doubt they perfectly coordinated the exact time to make the cutover to the new boxes and the new PSU revisions. If they had any extra old boxes, they might use them for the newer revision. Of course, I am just guessing.

If someone really wants to know, there is a email address on the Seasonic website.

Unlike some on this forum, I am perfectly content with the original version of the S12, since I can’t see my cables with the case closed. There are more important things in life to worry about.

Some with P180s and S12s would beg to differ.

Like what? Trolling and Threadcrapping? Something you have done both here and over there.
1. Longer sleeved cables may not be important to you but they're important to ME.
2. PCI graphics connectors may not be important to you but they're important to ME.
3. Additional SATA and Molex connectors may not be important to you but they're important to ME.
4. Reduction of Hazardous Substances may not be important to you, but it sure as hell is important to ME.

Please don't tell me when I should be content. I will decide that. And for the record, most companies are inundated with e-mails and often respond with copy and paste answers. Rarely have I received a reply that was actually useful or informative. Also, their customer service/support employees are generally kept in dark and are often the last to know.

Have a nice day.

Dear Sir,
Thanks for choosing Seasonic products.
Please know that for the new package S12 series, the low speed fan connectors have been removed.
That was one of two emails I received from SeaSonic in response to my question about the S12-430, which I received early last week from case-mod.com.

Itoq,

Welcome to SPCR. :D Thanks for letting us know about the fan connectors. So does the new version say A3 on the white label?

Posted: Wed Apr 05, 2006 2:11 pm
by Itoq
No. The white label says
WARRANTY VOID IF REMOVED
:D

The other white label does not specifically indicate where the revision # is so I would have to assume that it is F3?

'Model/[asian writing]: SS-430HB Active PFC F3'

It came in the newer box, has a RoHS sticker on the PSU, is sleeved, and has the new number of connectors. Also, the floppy connector is now on a seperate adapter -one molex to two floppy power connectors.

F3 is not the revision number. F3 means the PSU has an AC input range of 110V till 240V. (All retail packaged S12 PSU's have this range.)

Itoq,

Thanks for the quick reply. The revision number should be after the serial number. Here is a pic. Let us know how the PSU sounds.
