What about Tagan PSUs? - Tagan vs Seasonic S12-430?
Hey!
I just noticed, looking around, that no Tagan PSUs were on the recommended list. In fact, it would seem SPCR has not reviewed or properly evaluated a single Tagan PSU. Of course it's not SPCR's fault (if Tagan won't send a sample, then obviously no review can be done), but I'm still very interested in how Tagan PSUs compare to Seasonic PSUs, Seasonic's S12 series in particular (430W and 600W versions) in a silence perspective.
From what I've heard, Tagan are supposed to make very quiet PSUs. But how do they compare to Seasonic's S12 series? Does anyone know? Which is quieter?
What about overall quality?
Right now I'm a bit unsure on whether to go Seasonic S12-430 or a Tagan? (I know nothing about Tagans really, other than I've heard they are quiet as well.)
Thanks!
~ Kris
Note: I already have another thread about the 1.1kW Tagan vs Seasonic's S12-600. This one is about Seasonic's S12-430 vs whatever Tagan has to offer. Thank you!

I was planning to get a Tagan so I've been asking around and 1 guy said that Tagan was quieter than the Seasonic he had now but it got very hot.
I've tryed to contact Tagan and asked them to send a review to this site but no answer.
From what I've read the Seasonic is more effective but both seems great.
I did ending up with an Antec NeoHE since Tagan seems to have horrible customer support. I got 1 answer from them and I've sent maby 10 emails. But you can try to email them as well and ask them to send a review sample to this site

There are lots of threads in this forum (PSU forum) about Tagans, the search function is your friend. They seem to have some quality control issues (ie ticking noise that is not solved by a fan swap) and as you say they run hot. There's no question the Seasonic is your best bet, like someone said in this forum the other day, it's hard to find someone who bought a Seasonic who wasn't happy with it. There are a couple of well-known issues between Seasonic PSU's and DFI boards, but that's about it.What about overall quality?

You are preaching to the choir, my friend. I already have a Seasonic S12-430 and S12-600 myself and I can vouch for Seasonic's excellent quality. So the question was mainly about this Tagan brand... and when you mention it I've heard about them running real hot before so they may not be such a good option afterall.jaganath wrote:There are lots of threads in this forum (PSU forum) about Tagans, the search function is your friend. About the DFI and Seasonic issue, trust me, I know all of it. I had to replace my DFI nF4 LP SLI-DR in order to acheive any kind of stability at all (not that the DFI was very stable with an 850 SSI either, but stability is a general problem with DFI, looking for motherboards elsewhere now). (System wouldn't even cold boot, had to turn PSU:s powerbutton off/on everytime I wanted to boot.)
McBanjo I'm not *that* interested in the Tagan, especially if you sent them 10 e-mails already and only got 1 reply. Btw, why did you get the Antec NeoHE over a Seasonic S12? AFAIK the Seasonic S12:s are quieter?
Thanks for your time!

The soundlevels seems to be about the same, Antec has 1dB higher at min-load and 3dB higher at max-load.krille wrote:McBanjo I'm not *that* interested in the Tagan, especially if you sent them 10 e-mails already and only got 1 reply. Since I'm building a case inspired by P180 (was planning to get that case before I got powermad ) I want a straightthro airflow. Even if Seasonics seems to work I belive that those 3 45-degree bends hurts the airflow a bit.
My case so far, still a lot of work:

Ahh, McBanjo you were the one with the wooden case. Neat! In your case (pun) I'd still go with a Seasonic but w/e. How much 1-3dB is really depends on the person.
By the way i did send Tagan an e-mail (requesting review samples for SPCR), but seeing your previous experiences I don't reallt expect an answer.
Lycka till med snickeriet!

Yup, that's me
Seasonic would work ofcourse but apperently the HE is good when it works
Not sure if I can test 80mm fan vs 120mm fan. Antec vs NorthQ then. See what's best.
Guess it depends on peoples hearing. Doubt 18 vs 19dB gives anyone a problem but maby 25 is ok but not 26 so to say.
Good
Maby they can catch their sense and send a unit here for review.
Maby if we spam them... *lol*
Tack
Förhoppningsvis klart denna veckan
