PSU ::: Seasonic S12-600 Rev.A2
Case :: Antec P180 SPCR Special Edition
Rig ::::: See sig.

See I was thinking like this: The stock ADDA fan of the A2 is admittedly louder than the previous Yate Loon of the A1. And the Nexus Real-Silent 120mm is just a rebranded lower-rpm Yate Loon. So a Nexus fan should also be more silent than the stock ADDA fan too, no? It will probably not provide as much airflow, but in a P180 it will not have to take the heat from anything else but (currently) a single Samsung P120 P2504C (I'll probably add an extra drive or three in the future), which it should be able to handle without a doubt, no?

What do you guys think of this?

Good idea? Stupid idea? Why? Other suggestions? Other ways to silence the S12-600? Comments?

Any and all input appreciated!

Thanks

~ Kris

Does that ADDA fan really make more noise than the HD? Does it make more noise than the 4 drives you might put in the system?

No, as of now it's not a major source of noise (I think, when I use some tool to stop the fan I don't notice a difference in overall noise). I was just reflecting the idea, since all noise ultimately adds up and we're all trying to minimize all noise sources in minute detail. Also (according to SPCR reviews) the S12-600 is noisier at all loads than the S12-430... so it can't be completely silent I assume. It would definitely not make more noise than four 7.2krpm+ drives. (I should know, I used to run SEVEN! :shock: drives, luckily I caught myself in the act and regained my sanity, now I've unplugged six of them using only the most silent one. There's a very notable decrease in performance though, not to mention storage capacity. But these are all sacrifices you have to make, I assume, in order to restore serenity. The 2.5" future looks bright though.)

Anyway, I take it from your counterquestions that you are a bit sceptical to this "brainwave", no? Either way, please also provide your thoughts on the topic (ie would it be a good idea?). Thanks.
