power supply just fried...................

the power supply just fried on my brother's computer, smoke coming out from the case, would it cause other damage like mobo and harddrives? how do i check it?

i would just plug in a working psu to see if the other components still work

Second that. In fact I don't know how else it could be done. Try another PSU and see what happens.

I wouldn't think anything is fried though. I've had a PSU die on me (no smoke though) while I was out of the house. The machine had been left 'on' with a deffective PSU for hours and everything was working fine after replacing the PSU.

yea i had one smoke one time too. It didnt hurt any of my stuff. except my feelings a little bit :(
