Seasonic 400FS anyone?
Has anyone used a Seasonic 400FS yet? Any feedbacks on noise or quality? Thanks.

My standard quiet PSU has been any APFC Seasonic modded with a Panaflo L or M, fan grill cut away, and intake vent slots enlarged by turning the metal in-between strip[s 90 degrees. All have worked well, they exhibit the lowest coil noise of all PSUs I've tried, and they are generally very efficient (>70% with wide load range).
Did you connect the Panasonic fans to the speed-control circuitry in the Seasonic? I tried to replace the fan in both the 350 and 400 watt versions with a Panaflo H1A and the fan wouldn't start in either powersupply. Checking the voltage on the fan it was something like only 3.6V (don't recall exactly).MikeC wrote:My standard quiet PSU has been any APFC Seasonic modded with a Panaflo L or M, [...]
I used the H1A because it was the closest match to the original fan; I wasn't really trying to make it quieter, I just don't like the Adda fans and wanted to get rid of them.

confusion -- ooh, you'll beg to change that name in a week or two! -- you're right, that is what will happen with the "L" -- maybe even the "M". The start voltage on the Seasonic is ~4.3V (some variance). What happens is the PSU gets a bit warmer over 1-5 mins and when the thermistor gets warm enough, the fan starts. Doesn't hurt anything. The M is a better choice for airflow; the noise difference from L is virtually non existent if you have efficient case airflow because at 5V or less, the difference in noise between M and L is tiny, and the "sonic signature" is identical. It's safer becauuse it can ramp up to 32 cfm, compared to just 24 for the L. The stock Seasonic pushes 38 cfm. (fairly typical)
shunx -- no sticker. But you'll cut the grill away, which is pretty hard to hide. The Seasonic is available in Vancouver, BTW. New Type & Frontier.
