Hi everyone,

I was just wondering... do external PSU's for PC's (fan or fanless) exist? All the power supplies I've seen so far are supposed to be installed internally.

Please see below for an example of the "power brick" (NOTE: the pic is of a PS from a G4 Cube)

I have a little HP E-PC40 , that uses just one 92mm fan for cooling - its truly very quiet, and it uses an external "brick" type Lite-On PSU that sits on the ground, but it doesn't give regular voltages as you'd find on an ATX PSU - something like 18 and 27v on each rail... and its only rated to 110W. I presume its perfectly possible for someone to build a powerful ATX spec external PSU which runs passive (since there are no space limitations), but then there is the problem of voltage drops and losses in the long wires, though I'm not sure how applicable this would be for an ATX PSU.

Thanks for the heads up digitalix! It's good to know that these units do exist.
