I've swapped the fan in a S12. I did some soldering
I guess you used the Scythe SFF21F 1600 rpm.
How did you find the overall noise attitude after the mod?
Did it make it quitter?
Im planning to do the same any advice to follow?
What kind of soldering did you do?
Any pics will be ideal.
Thangs and greetings to everyone.
Yeah, I use the 1600 S-Flex.
I removed the fan-grill, while I was at it, and I also mounted the fan with rubber thingies. I simply cut the wires, and soldered them together agian... I wasnt aware of MikeC's little trick
Before the fan swap, the Adda fan hovered almost constantly around 800 RPM. Only during gaming, I think it went up to around 850 RPM. Clearly more air, than needed.
Now it's around 5-600 idle / light use. I cant push it above 720 RPM.
IF the rest of the system is very quiet, that is you can actually distinct the S12 noise from the rest, then it'll make a difference. At this point, my Hitachi in a Scythe Quiet Drive, is the noisiest thing. If I disconnect it, it appears that the Seasonic is quiter than a Nexus at 5 volt. This is subjective, and one of my Nexus' have a slight clicking. Anyway, I tend to say it at least is on par with a Nexus @ 5 volt, maybe better.
