mini-itx external PSU

Post by eddie » Sat May 24, 2003 12:16 pm

Does anyone have an experience with the external PSU that they sell on mini-itx.com (http://www.mini-itx.com/store/default.asp?c=9)?

Basically what i want to know is how silent it really is. On the site there's no mention of it being silent which makes me think it'll be quiet (no fan) but might make that annoying hum that some power supplies make.

So does anyone have first hand experience or know of a (friendly) computer shop in the UK that would let me 'listern'to it before i buy?

It's what is found in the Morex Cupid cases as well as the HUSH Technologies PCs. I have two -- one each in these case -- and for the intended application of driving a few peripherals plus an EPIA/M board, it works fine. No buzzing encountered as yet. But the coil noise does depended partly how big/hard the load is. I expect if you try to drive AMD or Intel processor systems, it will not be happy at all.

While I don't have that specific psu you are talking about, I do have a mini-itx pc that uses this 60w psu:

It's pretty quiet. Although, I should mention that this first one I bought was defective and I had to exchange it. But the working one I now have only makes a very very low humming sound that you really have to listen for if you want to hear it.
